Dear Students and Stakeholders,
The century we are living in
is an era in which the relationship between humanity and nature is being
redefined and environmental sustainability has become a global necessity.
Climate change, biodiversity loss, rapid depletion of natural resources, and
increasing environmental risks make science-based, innovative, and holistic
solutions more important than ever. Forest ecosystems are not only natural
assets; they also hold strategic value as climate regulators, carbon sinks,
protectors of water resources, and essential components of social well-being.
As the Department of Forestry,
we act with this awareness and responsibility; we carry the vision of becoming
an academic center that is highly productive scientifically, guides the future,
and is based on a development approach that is in harmony with nature.
The main objective of our
department is not only to train professionals with technical knowledge but also
to educate individuals who have high environmental awareness, strong analytical
thinking skills, commitment to ethical values, openness to interdisciplinary
collaboration, and leadership qualities. Our education programs are supported
not only by a strong theoretical foundation but also by field applications, laboratory
studies, project-based learning, and sectoral collaborations. We consider it a
primary goal to raise our students not only as individuals who access knowledge
but also as individuals who produce knowledge.
Our research activities focus
on current and critical areas such as sustainable forest management, ecosystem
restoration, combating climate change, carbon management, biodiversity
conservation, sustainable use of soil and water resources, forest fire management
strategies, and the development of disaster-resilient ecosystems. Through
national and international projects carried out within this scope, we both
contribute to the scientific community and develop practical, solution-oriented
outputs.
Digital transformation and
technological advancements are opening new horizons in the field of forestry.
By integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, big data
analytics, artificial intelligence-supported modeling, and smart forestry
applications into our education and research processes, we prepare our students
for the professional requirements of the future. Our aim is to train
professionals who can adapt to changing world conditions, use technology
effectively, and adopt a sustainable management approach.
In line with our understanding
of social responsibility, we establish strong collaborations with public
institutions, private sector organizations, non-governmental organizations, and
local governments. We attach importance to the practical implementation of
forestry practices and produce projects for the benefit of society by combining
academic knowledge with practical experience. The important roles undertaken by
our graduates in the public and private sectors are the most concrete indicators
of our department’s qualified education approach.
Within the framework of our
internationalization vision, we aim to provide our students and academics with
a global perspective through academic mobility programs, joint research
projects, and global collaborations. We consider continuously improving
scientific productivity, innovative approaches, and academic quality as our
strategic priority.
As the Department of Forestry,
we believe that protecting nature is not only a professional activity but also
a human and ethical responsibility. We will continue to work with
determination, guided by science, for more resilient ecosystems, more
sustainable cities, and a more livable world.
We wish success to all our
students who join us to undertake this great responsibility together; and we
thank our graduates, stakeholders, and all our colleagues who contribute with
their efforts.
To protect the future, we
protect nature; by protecting nature, we build the future.
Sincerely,
Lect. Dr. Doğan AKDEMİR
Chair of Forestry Department
